House of J Day: A Moment We’ll Never Forget — June 21, 2025

Updated: Dec 1, 2025

June 21st will forever mean something new to the House of J community.

What began as our annual gathering at Fork in the Alley turned into a historic moment — one none of us could have anticipated, and one we’ll be talking about for years to come. In the middle of laughter, food, and J-family energy, Mayor Joseph Cobb made a surprise appearance that changed everything.

With heartfelt words and a deep acknowledgment of what this community has built together, Mayor Cobb officially proclaimed June 21st as “House of J Day” in the City of Roanoke.

A Milestone Bigger Than Fitness

To have the Mayor of Roanoke stand before us and recognize House of J as an organization worthy of its own local holiday is something that’s hard to put into words. Fitness and boxing clubs rarely receive proclamations. Moments like this usually go to century-old institutions or major civic organizations — not necessarily to a young, growing community founded on sweat, resilience, and personal transformation.

But that’s exactly why it matters.

Because House of J isn’t just a club.

It’s a heartbeat.

A home.

A movement built one person at a time.

The Mayor spoke directly to that impact — how we've inspired healthier living, brought people together across backgrounds, and created a safe, uplifting environment that genuinely strengthens the city. To have our culture of inclusion, grit, and joy recognized in such a public and permanent way shows that what we’re doing is not only seen, but valued.

A Surprise We’ll Carry With Us

When Mayor Cobb walked into Fork in the Alley during our annual House of J Day celebration, the room froze. No one expected an official city proclamation, let alone a moment so heartfelt. As he read the document aloud — declaring June 21st a local holiday — there were cheers, a few tears, and a collective sense of honor that filled the space.

This was a celebration of everyone who's ever stepped through our doors:

  • The day-one members who helped define the culture

  • The new faces who continue to bring energy and commitment

  • The coaches who push, lead, and believe in every person

  • The friends and family who support the journey

  • The wider Roanoke community that has embraced House of J as a force for good

This proclamation belongs to all of us.

What House of J Day Means Going Forward

June 21st is no longer just an event — it’s now a legacy.

A tradition.

A permanent reminder that community-driven health and belonging can shape a city.

House of J Day will continue to be a moment each year where we gather not just to train or celebrate, but to reflect on the impact we’re making together. It will be a reminder that our mission extends far beyond the gym floor — into our neighborhoods, our families, and the lives we touch every day.

A Tremendous Thank You to Mayor Joe Cobb

Mayor Cobb, words can’t fully express our gratitude. From the very beginning, you’ve supported our mission; attending our events, offering guidance, and even honoring us with our own holiday. We are deeply thankful for your continued encouragement, presence, and belief in what we’re building.

Your leadership has inspired our team and our students, giving them the chance to connect with a mayor who leads not just officially, but personally and genuinely. Thank you for your extraordinary support, and for being such a thoughtful and dedicated mayor to the city we love.
